This is a great item and unique for the Alfa SZ.
Base is an Alfa 75 airfilter box, but they cut off a corner to make it fit, then beat it a bit with a hammer or something and welded in a small plate to close it up again.
Real piece of art.
Are they all like this, or are later cars (mine is number 42) better??
I am getting mine blasted and painted, because it is not pretty anymore and starts to get some small rust-spots.

Hi harry, that's interesting... Oh the charms of a coach-built limited edition Alfa with craftsman lovingly building your car with 100's of years of passion... and a hammer
My car (a later model, no. 696) doesn't have this welded bit, it's a one piece design so i guess its one of a number of things they 'improved' as they built them. |

I've heard about this bit of "modification" before so presumed mine was the same....but it doesn't look as bad as yours Harry
Will check and report back if it's the same...but as your car is such an early one I guess not, my SZ is 353 by the way.

Had a look today, mine has a little bit of marking near the clip, about a third of the way along...but will have to remove the lid to be sure...but I was more interested in taking it for a drive

I got it back now and it looks perfect again.
But Marc said that some tuners will remove that black box that sits in the airfilterhousing and connects to the air measurement thing (how do you call that in English? ). The tuners say this will add maybe 5bhp.
Why is this box in there?? Is it needed (for what?) or can I just remove it safely and maybe even get some extra hp??
The black box in picture 2, so this one :

Harry, the black box is a restrictor.
When you remove it the resistance within the airflow is reduced and this should increase breathing of the air intake at high need as with high revs.
I've heard talks of 3 to 5 bhp increases but I have never seen dyno outputs or something. I understand that some British tuners have sold this conversion for serious money in the beginning of the nineties.

Yes, they (Autodelta) did.... 200 euro for undoing 4 bolts...
Have never seen any dyno graphs to prove their claims but know when I changed to
a cone filter, restrictor removed, my run improved by 19 BHP....
