Hello guy's,
the original material used is 30 mm poly-ether with a certain profile.
It is used amongst other things in flight cases.
To renew the foam pieze, the biggest problem is related to the size needed. In regular DIY stores (at least in Holland) you can buy pieces of 100 cm x 50 cm but in order to make it from 1 piece you need 110 x 100 cm.
In Holland several companies supply materials to make your own flight cases or cases to transport musical instruments.
I've bought my material at flightcase.nl (200 x 100 cm, Euro 18,95 at the moment).
I made a template of cardboard paper as my original foam had disintegrated and crumbled away (falling on the headers and causing a frightening moment when smoke came out from under the bonnet and the wheel well).
Glueing can be done with a number of glues, just make sure it can withstand higher temperatures.
Total time spent, besides getting the material, was less than 1 hour, including making the template. And a lot of visual improvement of the underbonnet view.
Regarding the remark of Ceesz, I never experienced problems with my (original size) 30 mm material regarding overheating but hey remember, these are Italian handbuilt cars.
Hope to be of help,
Robin |

Excellent advice Robin thank you. I might make this a small summer job, the foam in my car is still all in one piece but has started to go brittle. |

I must look at doing this soon, bits are starting to fall off
I also now have the same problem as you Harry, the foam on the side of the bonnet has worn through and needs replacing.

The original is 30mm and that is not on that site anymore.
Maybe 20mm is good also, but I am not sure. |
