hello to all,
i'm writing from Milano, italy, and i'm looking for a good SZ; today a friend of mine have inspected N° 984 actually in Rome.

the car looks like a good used car but there are some things i want to show to receive your feedback

1)

rust on the roof? but if i remember well was in aluminium..
what do you think? there is a way to solve this problem?

2)

this is too easy to fix..
have you different experience on this matter?

3)

is the first time i see something like this, plastic seems to be deformed but, working well..

thanks in advance for your replay and....sorry for my english!!
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

No.1 rusting roof is quite common. The aluminum roof is bonded to steel frame causing electrolytic corrosion. It can be fixed but I guess it will be expensive to do properly -the roof may even have to be removed??

No.2 not seen before but doesn't look to difficult to fix

No.3 - very strange and looks like it will need a new part but I guess these are difficult to come by...

It might still be a good car, but with these problems it needs to be cheap!

Good luck

Philip

thanks philip for your reply,

based on your experience, do you think rust is on both aluminium and steel frame or just on the roof panel?

what's mean cheap for you? how many €€€??

It will probably need the windscreen removing to do properly, if the screen is damaged I understand they are around £1500 to replace...it's a risk!

Indeed not a big problem.
I recommend, leave everything in place, (also the non available rubber).
Remove the painting with your fingernail.
Clean the roof (from the dusty corrosion),
Fill the height difference with a two component epoxy primer.

Then the most difficult part:
-spray the roof in the right color with the right finish.

Indeed easy to fix. This rust is caused bij the bad water guidance from the little tryangle windows, the plastic side of the car an the rubber.

Between the original steel frame and the outer plastic side, Zagato welded a piece of steel against the chasis (B-style). Then glued the plastic outerpart on it.

I recomment:
-Remove the rubber strip just a little bit.
Remove most of the rust with an screwdriver.
Remove the rest with a steel brush.

I don't think there is a gap.
Use a antioxidant, then a zinckspray primer.
Maybee fill the gap between the welded steel sidepanel and the plastic outer panel wit a kitt. Again use primer and spray in red again.
Finnish it with a better water guidence using a kitt.

Indeed strange.
Get the taco out.
Messure the diameter of the glass (plastic).
Go to a glas store and let them cut a pice of glass or plastic in the same size.

Bingo, you have great car and a nice ride.

This things above would not stop me. In fact you can do it by youreself (exept of the roof, better get a pro for that).

More important... Are the lights (front and rear) perfect.
Are all the windows perfect. Are the bearings (back) in good shape. And are the brakedisk thick enough. Engine, gearbox, et cetera.

Rest is easy to fix.
