|
|
Yesterday I attended a touring rally with the SZ and I think I have a problem with my clutch.
Last year, before taking the SZ to the south of Italy, I had the clutch changed by Savali, together with a shim and also the syncromeshes from 1st and 2nd gear.
The shim was the only real problem, the rest was prevention and the box had to be opened for that shim, so I decided to change some extra things.
But since the clutch was changed, driving away in first gear was less smooth then before. I thought it needed driving/using, but even after the holiday it wasn't better.
Yesterday it became worse and I have to let it slip a lot and use a lot of power just to get away. If I don't do that the rear makes a clonking noise.
In the other gears I don't have problems, it is only when I drive away in first from a standstill.
I will go back to Savali, but I don't want another very expensive service and would like to know what the problem is.
Did they make a mistake or is it just a coincidence? |

If The noise is a bit screamy and you feel the frequency in your feet it's the prise axle.
I had it on a 75 and a litlle grease fixed the problem for a while.
Clonking noises are not familiar to me, but would bother me.
Does the gearshift lever moves from left to right whem you let the clutch go up?
If so the bold on the main gearaxle has come lose. _________________ SZ: #150 |

I don't know how to describe the sound, but it is not very loud or alarming. But it isn't good either. |

It is probably something with the "pressure group" (or how do you call it in English?) or possibly oil leaking on the clutch.
I told them that the problem started right after the clutch-job.
I thought it would go away after some using, because the clutch was brandnew and needed running in, but sadly that didn't happen...
Next time I will go back immediatly, but I don't always have time for that.
And the mechanic who drove and parked my car should have noticed the problem too!
But I am afraid it will be an expensive service again. I am taking the car there on 14-08 and it needs a new cam-belt too.
I will keep you guys posted! |

Sam van Lingen says it is no big problem, because it is possible to drive away without problems if you do everything perfect. So right RPM's, let the clutch slip for a long time and ease away.
But 9 out of 10 times it doesn't go perfect, so I will have to address this problem.
Martelluci has an uprated clutch and pressure group for sale, but maybe there are other options?
I read on Ed's website that Helix have an uprated clutch for SZ's? Does that include the pressure group and how much is it?
Does anybody here have that clutch-kit?
I think 600-800 Euro's for a clutch kit is very expensive. A clutch kit for an Alfa GTV V6 is less than 300 euro's! |

Okay, which one is it for the SZ???
http://www.performatek.com/frOnlineCatalog.htm
Probably this one (DDCD-8CF), which says ES30
"9 pad Carbon Fiber clutch disk, sprung hub
Excellent for highly modified engines, track/race use. Crisp engagement, long life. Excellent driveablity for street. Heavier than stock disk.
For GTV6 (single disk); Milano; ES-30
75 1.8L Turbo, 75 2.4L TD
"
275$ isn't expensive. Do I need more parts or is this all?

And is this only the clutch-plate or does it include the pressure group? (I do not know if this is the correct word for it in English)
I need a complete clutch kit, because the pressure part is the problem. The plate itself is only 2 years and 8000km's old, but I will replace that one too. |

A Sachs pressure plate costs 345 euro's, so the Performatek is only the clutchplate.
http://www.alfastrada.nl/overzicht.php?hcat=1&scat=16
So again :
Why is an SZ clutch+pressure plate so much more expensive??
Performatek clutch : 275$ (Ex shipping)
Sachs pressure plate : 345 Euro
That will be at least 600 euro's in total and I think this does not include the pressure bearing.
A complete clutch kit with clutch, pressure plate and bearing for an Alfa 75 TS is only 235 Euros! |

I think thats because they have twice or three times as many springs. _________________ SZ: #150 |

A couple of weeks ago I found a complete (brandnew) clutch kit for about 450 euro's on a Dutch parts-site, but I cannot find it anymore.
I am interested in all tips regarding complete (new) clutch kits for the Alfa SZ.
I do not need a racingclutch, because I'm afraid that it will be heavier to use so less nice in traffic jams etc.
But I need a good clutch that is strong enough for the SZ engine. The standard clutch is a bit light. |
