Hi,

Has any of you guys have had any experience with windscreen seals supplied from autodelta uk?

After this season I want to repaint the roofpanel and pillars because of some rust. My guess is that when I remove it, the original trimming will break or deform so much that I have to use new material.

Who has done this in the past and can me some advise?

Thanks in advance, best regards,fRank

I cannot help you, but please take pictures.
I (or others) may be doing this in a couple of years also.

How bad is the rust on the roof?

Ok Harry,
I will make some pictures then (coming winter season I guess).

How bad is it?
Well, let's say that the visible corrosion can be removed without taking off the trimming.
Carefull sanding and repainting will do the job for now... But that's not a permanent solution, under/behind this trim there always will be some corrosion left and within time (one year, maybe two? It's alloy remember Exclamation ) the cracks and bubbles under the paint will show up again...
And then the whole story will repeat itself, so to solve this for a long(er) period the trimming should be removed. (maybe even the front screen has to be loosened but I'm too afraid to do that... Embarassed )

The same goes for the spot where the C-pillar meets the rearwing.

Btw, it's not that bad that I should be afraid to loose the roofpanel @ high speed... Laughing

Best regards,fRank

Okay Smile

I've got a couple of bubbles too, but not enough to do any work (yet).
But I am interested in what you will be doing of course.

By the way : could you send me an email? (harry@alfasz.nl)

Hi Frank,

I remember seeing an SZ years ago fitted with an Autodelta windscreen and the fit was awful. I don't know whether this was due to the seals, the screen or a combination of both (or even the fitter perhaps) but whatever the end result was terrible.

Sorry, not very helpful Sad

Philip

Hm that would be a little disaster... Crying or Very sad

Last week @ the paintshop we discussed the work that needs to be done to make the roof look like new again.
They shared my thought about breaking or damaging the original trimming when it's removed after 21 years...

We still have the time to figure this out, at first a nice season of Sz driving lies ahead! Cool

Thanks for your answer anyway, best regards, fRank

Hallo Frank,

Upon Rogor's request the (kind of Laughing ) translation:

Hi Frank,

As far as I know there where 4 different companies who have manufactured windscreens:

-1 Alfa Romeo; good quality, good fit/shape, good flexability
-2 Autodelta Uk; doubtable quality, bad fit/shape, good flexability
-3 Paul Koot (Lancia Hyena); good fit/shape, bad flexability
-4 Unknown, but I know a guy who knows a guy etc..., both fitting and flexability seems to be good.

Because of the bad shape of the Autodelta screens there are extra thick seals required to fill the gaps. Some enthousiasts think this looks very ugly.

If there are little bubbles on the alloy roof, I wouldn’t bother removing the seals and frontscreen. I’ve had the same troubles and after all it was a piece of cake..!

With your fingernail you can scratch open the bubbles, most possible showing a thin layer of dust (alloy oxide), this can be polished away.
Now securely mask the seal and fill up the ‘lower’ part in the alloy panel with a 2 component primer. After this (and sanding off course Laughing ) the roof can be repainted.

The exact colour of the roofpanel isn’t the most difficult part, but to get the same matt finish as original is.

Tip: if you want to remove the seals; park the car for an hour or so in the heated area of the paint cabin, the seals will become much more flexible.

Thanks for your answer Roy, best regards,fRank

I know an Alfa Romeo dealer in Veenendaal (Netherlands) that made about 20 SZ-windows. (dealer it is now called Galleria Stemerdink)

I asked what they cost and he said they weren't cheap (duhh) and then he quoted a price of around 600 euro's. That's not expensive.
So if I need an SZ-window I will contact them first. I do not know if they have any left though.
