Like many other owners the foam on my bonnet needs replacing.
But...what is it's purpose?
- heat insulation for the plastic bonnet?
- sound insulation?
- vibration suppressor?
Does anyone run without...are there any problems?

Peal it all off... the weight saving is immense..
Seriously, I have removed the old one and although I have a new one (kindly supplied by Ed) I have not as yet installed it...
I don't think it does anything other than cover up the poor surface of the bonnet..

Yeah about 50 gram...
I think you are right, it's only purpose is covering up that ugly 'unfinished plastic' look...
Íf it had to do something else besides that I would put my money on sound isolation (looks like the stuff you decorate the rehursing room of a good metal band with.. )
Anyway, why try to silence the beautifull noise of that Busso v6...?

I got fed up with bits of mine depositing itself all over the engine, so last summer I cleaned it all off (quite messy). I have thought about replacing it but can't really see the point... |

That's the stage I'm at now
I quite like the look of it, just wondering if it's essential for the car....doesn't look like it

I used a kind of grey colored isolation foam. The first time I placed a piece of 1,5 cm thick, but my warning light of the temperature indicator go's on. Now I placed foam with 0,5 cm thick and thats better.
Can you see what a difference that makes. |

Found a big piece of this on the engine the other day Time to do something about it I think....looks like it's simply sound deadening foam and fairly cheap.
Might consider talking to a company to see if they can be professionally cut, is there anyone else interested?
Failing that I'll buy a foam cutter and DIY the job!

One question before I launch in to this...is the original foam black or grey? Mine is a mucky grey/black/green colour so I can't be sure!
I'm thinking charcoal/black???

Grey is allright, but a bit darker is probably closer to original. |

Still haven't sorted this, but I have removed the old foam, what a NASTY job!
New foam is in the garage waiting for me to sort out a template
