Hi,

I'm building a kit car and looking for small rectangular headlamps (circa 9cm high x 11cm wide). The only ones I've seen that come close are those on the SZ, but I've not been able to measure a real one.

Would one of you kind folks be able to measure yours & tell me what size they are?

Much appreciated.

I did a quick measurement and they are about 80mm high x 100mm wide. If you're quick you could even buy a lens of ebay:

However these lights are super rare and hopefully you can find an alternative otherwise your car may never be finished!

By the way can you give us some more details of your lotus nova - sounds interesting....

Philip

I love old kitcars and the Nova is in many ways THE old kitcar. Some of them look truly awful, but if done right even today the Nova can look stunning. Someone in the UK Alfa Owners club has one powered by a midmounted Alfasud engine - it looks terrific:

Will your lotus one have the engine outback mated to the VW transaxle, or will you also go the mid mounted route? I wonder if you could even pop a nova body over an Elise chassis?

I remember this car well.
Also in the Netherlands this was a spectacular car 30 years ago.

What about the lights, you could also use the headlamps of a Ferrari F40,they are the same. Bit difficult to find one at a scrapyard I guess.

But without the foolishness, I also was looking for an alternative for the SZ head lamps and came up with the following idea.

Seek for a small universal headlamp nr 11
http://www.alibaba.com/productshowimg/nataly-10086904-17106/Headlamps.html

or

http://www.andysautosport.com/projector_headlights.html

or

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?Ntt=Headlight+Conversion+Kit

or
http://www.ilovebodykits.com/category/121/Exterior_Lights_Head-Lights.html

or maybe take some headlights with lenses out of a scrapyard headlamp (fi BMW).

Then build a square casing yourself of aluminium/steel plastic.
Go to a window glass/mirror shop and let them cut pieces of square glass
(I already did that for another project)

If you continue with the project this way, I'm willing to take some pictures of the SZ headlights (the 4 smaller ones) the two larger/deeper one are the outer once with the lenses.

You might even look in the motorcycle area...
