Douwe Heida, Dutch Alfa dealer and driver in the Alfachallenge has build an SZ Competizione for himself. Cool

Good news for us is (beside that we can watch a race SZ on warpspeed on a regular base Laughing ) that he took moulds from all the bodyparts! With this moulds he can reproduce lightweight polyester bodyparts for the SZ!

Example, the hood weights a little 5 (!) kg...

Tadaaaah! Laughing http://link.marktplaats.nl/388518664

Best regards,fRank

Hi Philip,

After a pleasant phonecall I do have some (approx.) prices;

-Frontbumper 600,- eur
-Rearbumper 500,- "
-Hood 800- "

These prices may change as I understood. Prices are in euros, excl. shipping.

I was told that the quality is excellent, only a tiny layer of filler needed to make them 100% smooth.
Also the fitting is as good as (or even better Twisted Evil ) than the original parts.

More parts to come btw, like doors and rear wings etc...

He also had the original frontbumper and hood for sale (new, painted in red), price is 3500 eu.
And a few other original parts like headlights etc (very much response on these items...)

Any questions, please let me know, best regards,fRank

That's quite interesting - fitting all those parts would i guess lighten the car by around 60Kg perhaps? I guess the cost is quite high but something to bear in mind for the future...

Cheers Frank!

Thanks rz. I read somewhere that the standard hood is 35KG. Do you know how much the front bumper weighs?

Hi Philip, I once read that the standard hood can weight up to 39 kg...
Their hood can be lifted with two small hydraulic cylinders (look at the pics)
And ,according to mr Heida's words it doesn't 'wobble' or lift @ high speed.

The weight reduction in front is more than welcome ,I think ...Let's say about 60kg less, a nice improvement!

About the price: In case of damage you will be happy that there are some spareparts...Of course, for now it only seems like a high cost investment for a simple weight reduction.

I'm thinking about replacing my front bumper and hood with this parts in future; So I can save and store the original ones (less change of damage when their not mounted on the car.And they can be easily replaced when I should want to sell the car in it's original condition..)
In the meantime I have the benefits of a less heavier front. Idea

@rz, I guess that the rear bumper is just a 'skin' ,a preformed layer of poly like modern cars have?

Regards,fRank

the original parts are heavy, the hood especially.
about 27kg maximum.
the front bumper is not extremely heavy.
my hood and bumper were about 5.5kg a piece, out of kevlar .
i think the weight reduction is maximum 25 kg and you can be sure that the front of the hood will move up and down in the wind.
especially his design without any reinforcements in the front.
he will use those hoodlocks in front.
be aware that there are three different kinds of hoods made on the sz and likely a replica will never fitt well !!
and frank, the rear bumper is made like the front one only smaller.so it weights about estimated 5-6 kg, mine was 3.0 kg.
it wasn't worth the money for sure!!!i still have the molds.
rear bumper is the same as sz.

Hi rz,

Ok, 27 kg max for the hood is still more than enough... Laughing

I think you're right, they will use hoodpins on the race car instead of the original locking system.
About the fitting of a replica hood; my original one even doesn't fit very well.. Think

Thanks for the info about the bumpers btw.

Best regards,fRank

Douwe told me he has a customer who wants a lightweight hood for his RZ.
I asked Douwe if he was willing to trade mine RZ hood (indeed the RZ hood of RZ*). I didn't get a clear answer.

Maybe the customer wants an SZ hood for his RZ?
I think the SZ-hood is cooler and maybe I am not the only one. Smile
