Myself and a Lotus Elise owning buddy took a trip to the Nurburgring a couple of weekends ago and then drove home via Spa and Reims. Here's a couple of photo's from the ring:

Whilst in Reims, another SZ drove past and then turned around and came back for a chat - it was a local Alfa enthusiast who also owned a 2600 Spider

All in all a great weekend Very Happy

Hope you enjoy the pictures

Cheers

Philip

No problems at all - but the car does have uprated front springs and uprated front anti-rollbar so that probably helped.

Regards

Welcome on this board Philip!
Thank you for the pictures and the story.
Nice coincidence to meet another SZ in Reims! Do you know the car number?

Cool picture in the carousel!

Hello Philip,
Nice pics and good to see you go around the Nurburgring.
I went with an Alfa 75.

Might go next year with te SZ, but first I want to learn the track (by playing playstation).

Did you go coldturkey or did you first tried some rounds on the computer?

@Rogor : you cannot learn the Nurburgring on the playstation. The only way is to do many laps on the real track and be very carefull in the beginning.

The last guy that I heard who said he had learned the ring on the Playstation ended up on his roof right in front of me.
It was a young English guy in a E36 325i who thought he could do it in 9 minutes or something and was driving like an idiot.

But I don't think you will drive like that. Smile

I wasn't a total 'Ring virgin as I did the 75 Experience weekend 3 years ago. However that was a long time ago so about 6 months ago I bought a playstation and Gran Turismo 4 to try and help me with the circuit.

However one lap on the track and I suddenly realised the playstation in no way prepares you for Nurburgring - it is the most awesome place in the world! To be fair it did help with some of the left/rights, but it in no way prepares you for the elevation changes, the cambers, the kerbs etc.

I did a proper course which involved a track walk, 2 hours of lapping behind an instructor and then 2 hours of free lapping. I'm hooked and now need to go back again!

I would like to do the 75 Experience once also.
Those are nice cars.

Here are three pictures of that E36 that almost hit me (!) and crashed a couple of bends later because he just didn't know the track.
He almost hit me, because I was driving slowly because of oil on the track. The track was partially blocked on one side with warning shields ("slow down - oil") and tape etc. But that idiot just kept driving full speed, because he wanted to do it in 9 minutes... I could avoid an accident, because I saw him coming. I was driving a Porsche 944 S2 from a good friend of mine, so I am happy nothing happened.

But I still like the ring, even with all those accidents. I once had a Golf 2 GTI 16V racecar with a friend of mine and we had lots of fun on the Nordschleife! It only had 140bhp, but it weighed about 900kg's, so we were sometimes quicker than for example a BMW M5 who didn't know the track.
