On eBay I found an auction whereby someone has scanned a range of magazines using OCR & PDF, going back to the first issue & up to 30 years back (EVO, Performance Car-UK, Fast Lane, CAR-UK, Total 911, 911 & Porsche World).

Seems like a great way to find all those Alfa & SZ related articles on my laptop or iPad without searching through hundreds of magazines. I wish I had this when doing the research on the SZ. It would have saved me a lot if time |

Interesting, but does this breach any copyright laws? |

Could well do. But an interesting concept nonetheless & one way to do away with boxes of stored magazines & yet still search, find & compare notes on any particular car.
So, is this an omen for paper based magazines as we know it, esp. car mags? If so, I must see if my current car mag subscriptions have emag options as well or in addition to the paper mag in the mail each month. If so, I might upgrade & avoid the 2-4 week delivery delays.
In the interim, I will be watching these auctions closely. |

Evo is now available on the ipad and it's pretty good. Only thing is it arrives after the printed version. However that's in the UK - I guess elsewhere that might not be the case. |

I think I will go for the iPad version of EVO assuming I still don't have to wait for the equivalent paper mag to arrive. That is just daft.
Things is, these auction give access to EVO's predecessor Performance Car & it's then competitor Fast Lane, which I expect we will likely never see in emag format.
Pf course there is also CAR & if you are into your Porsche's, the other Porsche publications. The 80's & 90's were a great time for the performance car, so the reading should be great & reminiscing will be fun.
Damn, I think I am starting to convince myself, esp. for the very reasonable price, particularly when compared to buying back issues of eBay which cost from 4-15+ GBP each + shipping, the latter which often kills the deal. |
