Could someone adviseme what to check carefully before buying a SZ? Which items will cost a lot to repair/replace? Thanks in advance.
Best regards |

Hello
SZs are fairly basic cars so as long as you do the usual car checks you should be fine.
1. Overheating engine (head gasket/water pump)
2. Roof corrosion (reaction between steel and aluminium)
3. Accident damage (panels expensive to non-existent)
4. Check front bumper for grounding damage, particularly around the lights.
5. Panel gaps and door fitting
6. Check the aircon and other electrics work, including gauges.
7. Tyres - look out for the original tyres on low mileage car, they'll be past their best now!
8. Chassis corrosion - check underneath, the 75 floorpan can rust
9. Paint - small bubbles are not unusual, and indicate the paint is original, not all cars have them though.
10. Check the boot for water and possible corrosion
Can't think of any more at the moment...apart from checking service history to mileage carefully.

Oh...and check when the timing belt was last replaced, the tensioner can leak too.
