|
|
Just washed the SZ ready for an Alfa event tomorrow and found the boot has quite a lot of water in it!
I *think* it's leaking around the rear lights...can't see anything on Ed's site, is this common?
Should be an easy fix, by cutting some thin rubber as a gasket...

Found out what it is today, couldn't see yesterday but the gaskets behind each light aren't in contact with the body allowing water through. In fact one allows plenty of light through too

Just finished taking it all apart and trying to refix the rubber seal...no chance!
The plastic lens is a poor fit and it's probably never been water tight I'll have to source some thicker sealing material and redo the lot.
Does anyone else have this issue with their car?

I always get a bit of water in the boot after washing but not what I'd consider a particularly large amount so haven't bother looking for the source. I just mop it up with a rag when I'm drying the rest of the car. |

Thanks for confirming, on reflection it must have been me using the hosepipe that made it worse...but it will still leak when it rains because of the gap

Always be carefull when washing the SZ, because you can get water everywhere.
When I spray the sidewindows with a lot of water it always gets in the interior. Still haven't figured out how, but it happens.
@wrinx : did you solve the problem yet? |

I don't get water in the boot luckily.
Be carefull with the hydraulic pump for the dampers that is located in the boot.
At least mine isn't protected against water. |

Kind of...the water does not come in from the lights as I thought, as they are more or less sealed boxes behind the ill fitting plastic lens! The only holes are where the fixing screws go through the bodywork...so I was wrong there
Which means the only other cause is me squirting the water around the boot lid when washing the car
Guess I'll have to be more careful in future...

No, neither is mine.
Ed's site shows the "hi-tech" solution of a flat plastic square covering the pump on later cars. I think mine is one of these cars as the rubber seal is the later shape but I guess the plastic has long gone.

It's impossible to keep water out of the SZ, especially the boot, it cannot be made to fit properly...
You get used to mopping up the water and leaving the boot open while drying the rest of the car.

Welcome
I washed the car tonight and made sure I checked where the water is coming in...it's definitely the boot seal at fault, but there is also a little water coming in just to the right of the boot opening, kinda between the opening the lights.
But, as you say...I'll just get used to mopping up
As a test, I've put some vaseline on the seal to see if this helps, but I doubt it!

Thanks!!
Yes, it's the boot seal. You get used to where not to direct the hose too much...
I recognise your name... did you used to post on the Alfa Romeo forum or maybe the GTV one (before you had an SZ) ?

Yes, I used to have a 916 Spider so posted on the Sportalfa forum, but not regularly. I used to be a very active member of the Alfaowner forum but haven't been there for about three years now.
