I'm going to look at replacing the wire to the starter motor with one of a heavier gauge, but if anyone has a better solution for fixing this known problem I'd be grateful.

This has been covered in some depth on Ed's site : http://home.wxs.nl/~evdbeek/monster.html ''Techtip 7''
Ed's site has a comprehensive list of fixes and tips regarding the SZ/RZ and am sure he would be willing
to add any further tips owners have found to any problems or improvements.

Yes, I've seen that, unfortunately it doesn't give the full detail.

On my SZ the wiring upgrade didn't help.
I took the starter motor to a Bosch Centre to get it checked. For about 100Euro they replaced all the worn parts. The starter motor revs much better now, even when the voltage of the battery is less than ideal (after not running the car for a month or so)
regards.

Mine isn't a starter motor problem as far as I know.
The starter works fine but doesn't always turn over when hot, which I'm putting down to high resistance...but could be wrong???

I had a similar problem with my motorcycle years ago. Turned out to be a battery problem. One bad cell will do it... |

Thanks for bumping this...as it turns out a replacement battery has cured the problem completely!
It's annoying though, the previous battery was only fitted in 2010 so must have been crap!

With batteries you never van tell... May last anything between 10 days and 10 years, of even longer... _________________ 1993 Alfa Romeo RZ (Project) |
