The nuts on the rear wheels of my SZ are open. That means the end of the bolt comes through the nut. On the front wheels they are closed.

I don't think the rears are original. Can anyone comment?
Does anyone know where I would source original wheel nuts from?

I would post a picture but I don't think we can. Is this correct Harry?

Cheers
Simon

Posting pictures is not possible I think. I will check that again.
Do you have other webspace to put the picture?
Or email it to me, so I can put a link here.

I do not know exactly what you mean.

Okay! You can use the IMG html-tags to show it in this forum.

You can reply in a thread and press the IMG-button. Add a url to the picture after that and press the IMG-button again.

The img-button adds an "img" tag before the url and a "/img" tag after the url.

Like this : {img}http://www.alfasz.nl/SZ_wideban.jpg{/img}
Replace the { and } with [ and ]

You can try it with this picture :

OK finally got round to taking some pictures.
I'll try links as I don't know where I can host the images. If some one wants to copy the pictures, host them then embed them here that would be even better.

Rear wheel nuts. Open faced. ie the bolts show through the end of the nuts.

Front wheel nuts the nuts are closed. ie the end of the bolt is not visible when the nut is in place.

I think the fronts are right but the rears look wrong to me.

What do you guys think?

Cheers
Simon

Okay, I see what you mean now!

According to a well known SZ-enthousiast it is possible that your car had (or still has?) spacers to widen the rear track/axle. For this, the original bolts are not long enough so others were put in place of them.
This is probably not allowed for the TUV so the spacers were removed.

You will have to find some original bolts if you want the original look.

Thanks Harry. I saw another SZ at the weekend and it had the same style nuts on the rear as the front wheels.

Somewhere along the line mine have gone missing.
If anyone hears of a set for sale please let me know.
Cheers

Ha ha good news.
I was looking for the tool to change spark plugs in the boot of the car. When I looked behind the spare wheel I found a lot wheel nuts wrapped up in a small plastic parcel. Looks like the previous owner made sure everything original stayed with the car.

I am away this weekend but will see if they fit in the next week or so and post some more pictures.

OK this has only taken me 2 years, but at the weekend I had a proper look at the wheel bolts and nuts.

It appears that the bolts I have on the car are M12 with 1.5mm thread. The original nuts are M12 with 1.25mm thread. This is why they are not on the car.

I wonder why a previous owner changed the bolts to 1.5mm thread?

I spoke with a local tyre shop and he told me that I wouldn't find nuts with the closed ends to fit the 1.5mm thread bolts. My only option is to find and replace the bolts on the axle if I want to use the original nuts.

Any ideas?

So you are still looking for the original bolts?
Or will any set work for you?
I can imagine you want to use your original nuts.

Hi Harry I think I'd rather use the original nuts but to be honest it isn't a priority at the moment as it's purely cosmetic. But it is something that bugs me from time to time which is why I posted here for opinions. At some point I will change either the bolts or nuts.

The car is due for the 2 year inspection in May and I am currently changing the glass on one of the headlamps that had a large stone chip in the middle. I also have some little jobs to do on my 328 and 5 weeks ago our daughter (2nd child) was born Very Happy So as you see I don't have a lot of free time at the moment.
