Is there a good alternative to Pirelli tyres? I ordered mine here in Dubai in November and they still have not arrived. Can not wait any longer so have to make a tough call - go to a different brand or buy them online in Europe and get them shipped....

Well..after the rear of mine just stepped out big time, in the wet with little provocation, I might be trying another brand too!

We had some good tyres on our old 916 Spider, Goodyear Eagle F1, seemed to stick very well.

I know Pirellis are supposed to be THE tyre to have, being the nearest to the SZ's originals, but tyre technology moves on.

I'd be interested to hear what others think...

I had Toyo Proxes T1R on my integrale before and liked them very much. I just approached Toyo her in Duabi and now I will need to wait and see whether I can get them.... I have definitely given up hope on Pirelli...

Sorry for any confusion, I type Toyo and then remembered they were Goodyears we had! Laughing

Heard good things about Toyo Proxes which is why I was thinking about them Rolling Eyes

I've also got Toyo T1-R's on mine - seem pretty good though never had other tyres on the car so can't make any direct comparisons.

Re-stepping out in the wet - new tyres wont necessarily cure this! SZ+Rain=oversteer as I found out one rainy day on the roundabouts of Bracknell not long after I had the car Embarassed

To be fair, it didn't happen on the same bend today, so perhaps there was a bit of diesel or similar on the road yesterday Twisted Evil

I have the Pirelli Pzero Corsas and think they're great in the dry. But like Philip says, I drive very carefully in the wet when I'm in the SZ.

I have P Zero Nero's on mine and I really like those.

I had Toyo Proxes on a BMW 325i trackday car and they are nice too. And they look good.
Only drawback was that they "smear" a little (the rubber 'melts' because of the extreme heat), so new tyres get old very quickly when using the car on racetracks. But I don't think you will have that problem with fastroad use.

Laughing Laughing They smear a bit huh....My car is in Dubai and it is not particularly cool here Rolling Eyes

But i think they will be fine. I have just received the good news that after 6 months of looking for suitable tyres in this hell hole....Toyo will fly them in from Japan at no extra cost. You all wonder why I make such a fuss about getting tyres - try to find a 16 inch performance tyre in Dubai and you will understand Evil or Very Mad

My car will finally get registered next week. I think it is the only SZ here and I found her with 5300 genuine kms on the clock. But she was virtually abandonned and left to die by her previous owner - a chap who clearly did not understand what he had parked outside in the sand, in the sun...
