I also heard and read something about that.
What I believe, is that in the filter housing, there is a square air guidance.
Some say (indeed ...) that if you remove that you gain 10 HP.
I say, just don't touch it... _________________ SZ: #150 |

I removed that black box to try it out.
It cannot harm anything if it is in there and it cannot harm anything when it isn't in there. So it is in my cupboard now.
But wrinx is talking about something else I guess? |

Yes, I'm aware of the "black box" modification...but I'm guessing this is a change to where the throttle butterfly rests. I've just read again in another period magazine which mentioned a recall for something similar.
Just wondering if my car had the modification because it spent most of it's life in storage!

Hello Wrinx,
in what period publications did you read about the throttlebody modifications ?
I collect SZ and RZ publications (and prepare the list for Eduards SZ / RZ register) and I don't remember any publications in that direction.
greetings,

I was chatting with Les Dufty at the weekend at a car show, he mentioned something about the throttle body being calibrated incorrectly and showed me what he meant.
Using the throttle cam he manually moved the butterfly a fraction until a faint click could be heard...that means it's ok apparently!
If the click can't be heard it's not set correctly and can affect the idle in particular, by over-fuelling.
The solution is to loosen a couple of bolts on the throttle body and set the butterfly up with a feeler gauge but I'd glazed over at that point as he'd lost me!
